TAB Business Owner/Franchisee

What is a TAB Business Owner?

We call our franchise owners TAB Business Owners, or TBOs. They are more than “franchisees”—they are talented business owners who share a success mindset, a commitment to excellence, and a desire to make a meaningful difference by helping others.

Unlike owning a typical business-to-business franchise, TBOs are business owners in every sense. They enjoy incredible flexibility and independence, are part of a world-class community of peers, and receive unparalleled training and support. They can also leverage their experience and achievements rather than reinvent themselves and their careers. They can apply their knowledge to help others become more successful.

TAB also provides a subscription model, which gives TAB Business Owners more peace of mind about how much money is coming in each month. TAB’s marketing support, contract facilitator model, and protected territories also mean our TBOs can quickly grow their businesses. It also frees up time to earn even more from consulting or to create a more rewarding work-life balance.

The TAB Difference

  • Do you want to be your own boss?
  • Have more independence and flexibility?
  • Earn what you’re really worth?
  • Make a difference in the community?

With today’s corporate environment, chances are you’ve already thought about being your own boss and owning your own business. As a franchise business owner with The Alternative Board (TAB), you will have the opportunity to be “in business for yourself, but not by yourself.”

Since 1990, TAB has helped over 25,000 business owners achieve their personal and professional goals through monthly business advisory boards and coaching. We’re looking for business professionals who are leaders in their local areas. You could be a consultant, coach, business owner or senior business professional looking to combine your passion for business and helping others succeed.

A Typical Week of a TAB Business Owner

Australian Business Owner is facilitating a Board Meeting

Following the proven TAB system, each month you will host multiple 4-hour (virtual board) meetings made up of business owners in your local community. You will be instrumental in making sure each TAB Board Member gets maximum value from each TAB Board meeting by helping draw out actionable ideas and strategies to help improve the business and the business owner.

Each of your TAB Board Members will meet (virtually) with you each month, where you will be their accountability partner to make sure what they promised to themselves (and their Board) is implemented in their business.

Two business people are shaking hands

You’ll attend business networking events in your local community or virtually, and even host a few of your own. You enjoy connecting with your local community and knowing a lot of people in the business community. You will deliver topic talks on business growth by local networking events where you will firstly provide value and explain why TAB offers a great benefit to the small to medium-sized business community.

Developing your Business

You’ll use multiple marketing and sales tools, including direct dialing, social media, email outreach, and in-person or virtual networking to explain what TAB does and how it can help business owners. You’ll meet face-to-face with potential strategic alliance partners, event hosts, and prospective TAB Board Members to determine whether there’s a good fit for potential partnership.

Virtual consulting meeting with a TAB Member

As a trusted business advisor, you’ll get occasional business consulting assignments from your TAB Members. The scope of this opportunity can be as niche or as broad as you’d like to make it.

Desired Skills

We’re looking for a business partner who will represent the TAB brand in the right way.
You may be the perfect fit if you exhibit these skills and attributes:

Business Expertise

You’re a growth expert in business, someone who has the ability to help a business grow through its people, its systems and its innovation.

Good Communicator

You’re someone people naturally like to converse with and open themselves up to. You understand that how well you listen is as important as what you say.

Expertise and Curiosity

You don’t have to know everything, but you do have an area of expertise. Perhaps even more important, you’re passionate about learning all areas of business.

TAB is looking for people who are prepared to spread the TAB message in their local community. This means meeting and sharing our great story with a lot of people in your business community.

TAB is an organization that helps local business communities. We’re looking for people who have a glass-half-full mentality, and who will represent what we do and our culture well.

Hardworking and Hungry

You know this is your business and are willing to work hard to build it to the level you need it to be. You consider yourself competitive, wanting to blaze new trails and break company records.

Success Stories

I was able to grow my TAB business to 15 TAB Members and three TAB Boards in only a few months after I launched. The most important thing I advise potential partners is to be willing to take advice from the TAB community. TAB Facilitators are business owners just like any other; they have to be open to learn and grow.

Blair Koch

CEO, TAB Denver West

I’ve seen first-hand how much business owners can benefit from some really good third-party advice. While consultants,
family members, and employees can provide a useful sounding board, only business owners can truly appreciate what other business owners are going through. Being a Master Partner has been enormously gratifying.

Ed Reid

Master Partner, TAB UK

The TAB International team is dedicated, focused and delivers great support. I feel very fortunate to be able to do what I love and make a great income along the way.”

– Steve Drury TAB Franchise Owner, Denver DTC

“TAB is the perfect fit for me. It gives me the opportunity to utilize two of the activities I enjoy most; helping business owners move their business forward and using skills that I have obtained over the years from my corporate experiences as well as my business owner experiences. The skills and strengths that my husband and I have complement and offset the weaknesses that we each have, making for a perfect working relationship. Our combined skills add value to our Members, making their experiences richer and more productive. At this point in my life, I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

– Mary Williams, TAB Franchise Owner, TAB West Fairfax

“The ideal TAB Business Owner loves people, loves to help solve problems, loves to celebrate the success of others and is willing to get into the boat with them. If you are a curious person and a lifelong learner, TAB is a great franchise opportunity.”

– Bill Edmonds, TAB Business Owner, TAB Columbia

“TAB has developed an amazing portfolio of tools and processes and support to help any franchisee who has the commitment and desire to be successful. The type of people that thrive inside of the TAB environment are people that love business and entrepreneurship, enjoy learning, enjoy collaborating and enjoy helping business owners to succeed. Must-have for a TAB Business Owner is the ability to facilitate and coach.”

– Joe Zente, TAB Austin, Texas

“Because I work with business owners every day, I see the isolation and lack of confidence to make decisions, because they don’t have anybody to discuss it with.”

– Laura Drury, TAB Business Owner, TAB Focused Directions (Colorado)

“I love what I do, and my prospects can tell that I have a passion for coaching and that this passion has grown since I bought my TAB business. You don’t only see the impact you have on the business, but the incomes of the owners, the jobs you help to retain or create.”

– Carey Mason, TAB Business Owner, TAB Northern Colorado
